Shopaholic drops a bollock

I only wanted a small suitcase, since I'm off to Bangladesh on Sunday and my last one spontaneously exploded in the street the other day (AND gashed my finger, to add injury to insult). I ended up clambering around Central Chitlom and the Skytrain with a suitcase, an ironing board, an iron, and several other bits and pieces. It was rush hour too. Mind you my wallet was demonstrably lighter on the way home.

Then a bloke on the Hotel tuk tuk, which thankfully turned up just as I was contemplating the 1km walk from skytrain to apartment, made a quip which I think he regretted. He'd complimented me on my rather handsome and stylish ironing board, so I began to read out the jokey message printed into the denim-look cover. It says something like "An iron is a device you rub on clothes to remove creases" - anyway his reply was "It should be in Thai because I'm sure YOU won't be the one using it!" Well having had a stressful time on the train I was in no mood for "sexpat" insinuations, so I said "Oh I'll be the one using it alright" in a rather high-and-mighty, don't-you-know-who-I-am kind of way. He immediately muttered an apology and a "Got that wrong", and was exceedingly nice to me for the rest of the ride, and made sure he held the lift for me when we got to Lake Green. Actually I wasn't really offended but there you go.

Sandy came to visit last night. We had a good old chinwag and some beer. He stayed over at my place. Here's us drunkenly playing drums - oy, the neighbours...

My word, the look of happiness on my ugly mush. Give me six beers and I'm anybody's.

Don't know if I'll be able to blog from Bangladesh, don't suppose you care. Later taters.

  1. Hello,

I dont get with why you pack your ironing board etc to go away. Just send your clothes to the local laundry... duh!!! ;-)

No wonder your case exploded ... LOL!!!

So Im sitting here cursing the bad irish weather and even worse old house I live in. Sad when its warmer and dryer outside than in this ole pile of shite. Nevertheless its somewhere I can leave my clothes to mould slowely without being stolen I guess.

So Russell, I need to chat to the missus, I tried your home phone but the number was disconnected. Please mail me a number to call Lynny on ... my email is odetterave@iol.ie

So then my old housemate a fellow South African who has moved out is pursuing me and Im getting a bit pissed about it. Not sure what to do. I might have to resort to being my tactful self and telling him to bugger off. Its been pretty stressful as he moved out under difficult circumstances. God the SA men are a pile of bollocks.

N E Way, How long will you be gone? Will you be home for Christmas?

I have a 'friend' coming over from the UK to spend a week with me ... God tis about time I had a bit of fun ... LOL!!!

Tyrone has a job at Copper & Spice and he has been taking lessons from the chefs. His favourite dish is Pad Thai. He is the only teenage guy I know who is worried about not using enough Tamarind paste in his dish. He should be a well rounded individual when he grows up, ha ha ha.

    Im so proud of him.

Some other arb news, my horse is going to university to do an exclusive course in Equine Science. She is being leased to a young student who rides at a higher grade than my daughter does and is going to finishing school, hilarious init?

My daughter is going to start riding the foal I bred for her, she is nearly 4 now, the foal not my daughter, and Im hoping for some good things to come out of it. Ah well a plan comes together even if it means a great deal of sacrifice. I really miss africa *sob*.

Take care and chat soon, hugz Me

  2. I've emailed Lyn's numbers but you've successfully used the home one many times already if I remember correctly. The phone is working ok, maybe there was a problem the day you rang.

The ironing board isn't for going away - unless I decide to try surfing, guffaw. No, I've needed one since I bought the posh shirts - no sense buying smart clothes and walking round looking like I slept in my shirt.

You need to shift your perception of the phrase "bad weather". Irish weather isn't bad, it's just mostly wet. Ask a gardener if he thinks it's bad, there are always other points of view init. I'm tempted to say Thai weather is "bad" because it's too warm for my liking, but then I'd be falling into the same trap.

I think Tyrone would make a good "Maitre D" - he's a very geregarious and likeable chap, far too nice to be locked away in the kitchen smelling of cooking oil. Give him my best wishes - I remember taking him for a mountain bike ride during your troubles. Nice kid.

Who's your UK friend? Hope you have lots of fun with him/her.

  3. Thanks Russell,

I will pass on your regards to Tyrone, he often mentions the ride you guys did and longingly wants to do another ... tee hee ... methinks he would enjoy having you around in the UK. (he will probably end up at uni there ..)

My UK 'friend' is a man and I think it was a set up with the girl I work with, so we have ended up chatting a lot and he suggested visiting after Christmas, so I brought it forward and we are both counting the days.

He asked me to come to the UK to work and we have been chatting about it quite a lot. More work opportunities etc.

You are right about the weather, Its a combination of stressors but not altogether bad. The house I am living in was built at the turn of the previous centuary and has no insulation etc and our neighbours roof is caving in and breaking down part of our house. The owner has been requested to fix things but that was 4 months ago and nothings happened yet.

Good point about keeping your nice shirts ironed etc, very spiffy. How ae they holding out? Have you ordered more? What about the pants?

Its cold and rainy again but the dogs are hapering for a walk so have to drag myself outdoor and entertain them in the park.

I found some beautifuyl birds (coots) yesterday. They are very cute. Its a pair and they were not too shy. Will take some bread and feed them. Ah the things that consume my time ... LOL!!!

Have a good weekend. Chat soon

    Ciao

  4. Hey there Russell - It was great meeting up with you in Bangkok. I had to travel 6000 miles (ish) to make a personal appearance on your blog. Obviously leaving the country just as I landed was 'probably coincidence'... anyhoo - I'm in Dubai airport....writing on your blog - tis funny to see this from your perspective !! Hey Odette - send Tyrone to Scotland to study ! he'll have a blast here !

  5. I thought you were taking the ironing board and suitcase full of ironing to someone who could!!!! What were you doing with an ironing board and a fully laiden suitcase - don't tell me you got it from Duty Free - how much did you get it for !!!?? :-)
Hope you have a good trip to Bangladesh x
Just been to the Christmas Markets in Manchester, they are very good this year, slightly sozzled, had a super night, good food too from a saint of a place - a micro brewery and pub that does fantastic food. Will go again if I can remember how to get there!!!

  6. Hi Alexanderbusby,

Thanks for the advice on Scotland ... its actually high on our priority lists. The are offering gret bursaries. He is registered for Biomedical engineering and advanced materials but not sure if he wants to do the biomedical side. He wants to do more engineering than science. Any suggestions?

Have a great day, its raining cats and dogs here in Dublin.
